14 VLC Media Player Shortcuts – You Should Try Now
I don’t know anybody in the world who uses PC or Laptop but not with VLC media player. Being honest, Almost everyone uses VLC media player. Having said that, While watching videos sometimes it gets complicated to use touch pad to play/pause or jump forward & Backward. So here i am with all VLC media player shortcuts with keyboard you should start using right now.
Play / pause with Space bar
You can and should use space bar for pause or to play again. It’s way too easier than using touch pad for the same. Since when i knew this, I have hardly used touch pad for play / pause purpose.
Slow forward or Backward
Use Shift + Arrow Right or Left to jump 3 seconds ahead or back. You can use while watching a very short video and still wanna skip.
Medium Forward or Backward
You could skip only 3 seconds with Shift button but with Alt+Arrow Right or Left you can jump 10 seconds. Suppose you are watching a video and didn’t heard the voice clearly then this will be very helpful.

Fast Forward or Backward
Lets take a situation that you are watching a long movie and a lengthy boring scene comes between then this tip will work. Ctrl + Arrow Right or Left shortcut will make you jump 1 Minute forward or backward.
Full Screen or exit Full screen
Use F to view video in full screen and ESC to view in default screen. F also works instead of ESC to view in default screen. F11 fits the video in screen.
Volume up or down
Use Ctrl + Arrow up or Down to increase or decrease volume by 5 percent. I always use this and you will also do after reading this.
Subtitles on or off
Use V button to turn subtitles on or off. Subtitle is synonym for CC which is Close Caption. What you hear in the video is written below, that’s what Subtitle called. Every video hasn’t subtitles.
If you know all handy shortcuts to VLC media player, press Ctrl + H to hide controls. Needless to say it will be back with controls if you press again. It also lets you enjoy the video without those complicated buttons just below the video.
Show Time or Jump to specific Time
Use T to see how much you have watched and how much more remaining, this will work great specially if controls are hidden. Press Ctrl + T to jump to a specific time, try it now but doesn’t work if controls are hidden.
Mute and Unmute Audio
By pressing M you can silent the video. Press M again to unmute. This could be use for avoid the scary violent and horror sounds and even that 🙂
Play from the beginning or Stop completely
Use P to play video from the beginning and S to stop the video. Don’t confuse pause with Stop, S ends the video completely unlike Space bar.
Playback speed is the speed of the video. Normally we watch 1X Mode. To make it faster or slower use [ / ]. Use = to make it normal i.e. 1X.
G/H helps in subtitle’s time adjustment. You can use both buttons to sync subtitles with voice. Use G to sync if Subtitle is slower than voice and H if Subtitle is faster than voice.
J/K could be use as Audio adjustments. Use J if your voice is faster than video and K if slower.
